Ranking up your Free Company

If you are a Free Company leader, or a new member to an existing Free Company, undoubtedly you will eventually have a gander at the Free Company menu.
What is that? Free Company Rank? Why are we gaining points? What do they do?

The question you are asking yourself is: Why should I even worry about ranking up my Free Company?

The faster you get your Free Company to rank 5, the faster you can gain amazing Free Company wide bonuses like:

  • Increased EXP gain
  • Reduced Gear Wear
  • Reduced teleportation fees

Since we did manage to get rank 5 in Beta Phase 4, I'll do my best to explain the system and give you a few tips on how to level your Free Company up the fastest.

First let's look at what you gain for your Free Company each time you level it up:

Rank 1: A Free Company Chest

The Free Company bank begins with 50 inventory spaces and is 1 "tab".

The tab(s) have permissions that can be set by the Free Company leader (or those with permission to do so).

  1. Full: Can add and remove items from the tab.
  2. Partial: Can view items in the chest tab.
  3. None: Closed access. Can not see, can not add/remove.

Rank 2: Crest Customization

2,850 points needed

Your leader (and those with permission) can now create and freely edit a crest for your Free Company.

This crest will appear in the Free Company micro menu in the top left corner of your Free Company menu.

Rank 3: Expanded Free Company Chest

11,270 points needed

You now have 150 bank spaces (3 tabs, 50 per tab) with individual permission sets.
In DoW we have ours set up like this:
  • Tab 1 Officers only. Invisible to everyone except officers.
  • Tab 2 Captains and officers have full access. Members can view only.
  • Tab 3 Open to anyone in the Free Company.

Rank 4: Gear Customization

25,000 points needed

You may now add your Free Company logo to your armor.

Each person must go to the Grand Company in which your Free Company originates and speak with the NPC beside the bank.
To add the crest to an item, it costs 100 gil.
There is an option to add it to all of your items. It will charge you accordingly.

Rank 5: Company Actions

50,000 points needed

You now have the ability to buy Company Actions from the counter for the Grand Company in which your Free Company belongs to.

Purchased at the Grand Company counter approximately 3.3k points each. Each buff lasts for 24 hours.

  • The Heat of Battle - Increases EXP earned through battle
  • Earth and Water - Increases EXP earned through gathering.
  • Helping Hand - Increases EXP earned through crafting.
  • A Man's Best Friend - Increases EXP earned by companions.
  • Brave New World - Increases the attributes of all members under level 10.
  • Live off the Land - Increases Gathering.
  • Eat from the Hand - Increases Craftsmanship.
  • What You See - Increases Perception.
  • In Control - Increases Control.
  • That Which Binds Us - Increases spiritbonding speed.
  • Meat and Mead - Increases duration of food effects.
  • Proper Care - Slows gear wear.
  • Back on Your Feet - Reduces the duration of Weakness.
  • Reduced Rates - Reduces teleportation fees.

Each of these "items" you buy goes directly to the "inactive" portion of the Free Company micro menu. They can then be "used" by anyone in the Free Company with permission to do so. The ability to buy and to use these actions is given to a rank by the leader. Once "used" they move to the "active" section and the timer begins counting down.

Ok, the bonuses are pretty good, how do I gain points for my Free Company?

  • Everything you do gains points for the Company.
  • Every Fate
  • Every Quest
  • Every HQ item gathered
  • Every Achievement
  • Leveling up
  • Every Crafting/Gathering/Hunting/Fishing Log Entry
  • And more.

So how do I get points for my FC the fastest?

Group up! Focus your efforts.
  • Quest parties (8 people, same quests, port everywhere. Share the costs of teleporting)
  • Gathering parties (in lower level areas spamming for HQ items)
  • FATE parties (run around 1 zone doing every FATE you see)
  • Dungeon parties (made entirely of FC members)

How about when I'm soloing?

Level your classes meanwhile do your hunting logs, every quest you see, and every fate that pops along the way.
If you did all that, go gather or craft HQ items that are easy for you to obtain. Sell + Profit.
